The Chalk Hill region takes its name from the white, volcanic ash found generously throughout its hillsides, left from centuries of eruptions from Mt. St. Helena. While slightly warmer than the surrounding regions, Chalk Hill’s climate lacks the cooling fog of its neighbor the Russian River. This, along with the region’s paucity of fertile soil, causes grapes to undergo a stressful evolution that produces rich and intense juice that makes some of the most coveted Chardonnay grapes in the world.
