The Herzog Bottling Line

The bottling line is another crucial component in the winemaking process. Each year, Herzog Wine Cellars produces over 3 million bottles of wine. Crafting exceptional wine is only part of the journey; getting it into bottles and out to customers is equally important. Our bottling line is much like a Lamborghini: small, custom, and fast.. It can fill up to 120 bottles per minute.

The process begins with empty bottles placed on the far end of the line. First, they are cleaned and filled, then a touch of gas is added to the top of the open bottle to protect against oxygen, and finally, they are corked. After corking, the bottles turn a corner and pass a light panel to ensure proper filling before their capsules are put on. Next, they pass through a small laser etcher that marks each bottle with a code, indicating when it was filled. The bottle then makes its final turn to receive its front and back labels. Finally, it heads into the packer where it is placed into a case, sealed, dropped on a pallet, and prepared for shipping around the world.

The bottling line is a precision instrument that must be cleaned, calibrated, and maintained between each wine batch to ensure consistent quality and uniformity of labels. Just like growing grapes, cultivating juice, and making packaging and labeling decisions, bottling is another key area where we strive for excellence.
